I probably won't be posting on here too much about life things. Just photography.

So head over to lifewithasideoflove.blogspot.com to keep updated on daily happenings. (it's a work in progress, so it will probably change soon!)

Stay tuned for photography posts though!

Too long.....

So it has been a super busy month. I apologize for not posting more, I just feel terrible about it. 2011 is almost over. The calendar at work notified me that there is only 4 more weeks til it's over. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and wound up stuffed to capacity. My husband and I put up our christmas tree on Sunday and I tried to snap a picture of it with my phone, but it came out horribly, so maybe I'll post one from my fancy camera.

Keep checking back with me, I will try to be better about posting. I hope to be able to add some photos on here too :)

For now, take care and I'll write soon!

Alas, I have returned!

Hi everyone! I can't even begin to believe that it's already November and that October has flown by! I'm at a loss for words (well, not really). I feel that October flew because I was so looking forward to Carl and Ann's wedding that I let the month slip away, and once the wedding was over, it was back to reality and time to clean up the things that I neglected while preparing for their big day.
It was such an honor taking photos at their wedding. I wish I could share some photos, but I made a deal with the bride that I would not show any photos before she approves of everything, so I guess you'll just have to wait. (But I am sooo itching to post some photos).

Sorry I've neglected posting, but like I said, it has been a crazy crazy month and now that the weather is colder and the nights start earlier, there's a good chance that I'll be inside more and will be able to post more.

I don't have too much else to say, other than Hockey is in full swing and my nights are slightly more full than they were this past summer.

I'll post pictures from my day in Newport with my bestie soon too! That'll be fun. It was much colder than I had expected, but we had a great day anyway.

Keep checking back, I'll try to get on here more!

Slacking...

I've been slacking on updating! There has been so much going on it has been difficult to post! I had reversal on Saturday for next Saturday's wedding and I also had senior portraits yesterday at the Grist Mill. Plus, I've been trying to spend some QT with my hubby,  so I've been lax on posting. Hopefully I'll be better soon!

Take care everyone!

Just another Monday...

I'm a huge believer that a photo is worth a thousand words. I am also a hug believer that you can take a great picture no matter your camera. You don't have to have the top of the line camera to capture a great image. I have used everything from disposable to my T2i and have made some wonderful art. And yes, photography is art.

Art: noun /ärt/ The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

I think photography is just that. Any image I capture invokes some sort of emotion out of the viewer, whether it be happy or sad, like or dislike. I am the first one to say that my photographs may not be to the liking of everyone. I'm okay with that. I am happy with the images I capture and produce. I love what I do. Like I have said before, I would do this full time if I could support my life with it. I have a running notebook of ideas (which I should keep next to my bed, because often I dream of locations and poses that I often forget to put into writing).

I crave art. I crave creativity. I crave producing work that makes people smile. When someone is happy with my photographs (of them or others) it gives me the greatest joy. Truly. When someone feels beautiful because I captured them at their most pure state, that makes me happy. And I am always all for being happy!

With that being said, always remember to do what you love. Take just a few minutes a day to do something for yourself that makes you happy, then project that happiness outward, share it with someone else to help their day along. Or do something for yourself that just happens to makes someone else smile.. An impromptu 'pep talk' or sorts via your happiness. Happiness is usually contagious.

I am so excited for the next few months. This month is pretty busy for me, I have senior photos next weekend and then a huuge wedding the weekend after (I am so excited for both!) so I have been mentally trying to prepare for them. Plus with the two shoots this past weekend, I have a lot of editing and processing to do. I can't wait until the leave change a little more and then I can get outside and take some autumn photos.

This is Autumn 2010. Enjoy!

I'm still waiting to receive my giveaway product! I'll post details once I make sure that it comes in up to my standards (which I'm sure it will).

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Rainy Saturday

So today I am taking photos of my cousin Sam. We have been trying to plan this for months and the day is finally here and it is threatening to rain. Isn't that always the way. It seems that the weather tends to get in the way more often than not. Sometimes life is like that though, and there are obstacles that you just have to work with or around. Sometimes it feels like it is not worth putting the effort in but it always is worth it to overcome.

With that being said, I'm hoping that this little snag in the weather will provide me with the ability to make it work :)

Have a great day everyone! And ill post pics of todays session soon!

Baby Picture(s) and busy week and giveaway details (kind of)

Last night I was finally able to take pictures of a cute little boy named Ryan! This is Joe and April's new baby boy! I had so much fun. He snoozed through the beginning of the shoot, but once it was almost time to leave he decided to grace us with his presence. Taking photos of babies is an easy/hard thing but I think we got some great shots of him. I am so happy to have finally met him.
He was just hanging out, stretching and showing off his muscles.
This week/weekend is pretty busy for me here. Tomorrow night Lynne is coming over to do/talk about a shoot. It's going to be so much fun. She's a great subject.

Then Saturday morning I'm taking photos of a pretty awesome chick named Sam. I'm not sure exactly where we're going, but I'm sure it's going to be a great time no matter where we head and then Sunday I'm taking photos for another friend (Jess) and those are going to be fantastic, if the weather holds up and if I can get the effect of exactly what I want. You can read more about her over at profootballchick.com.

As for now, I'm going to cook up something good to eat and then relax for the night to prepare for tomorrow night and this weekend!

Have a great night everyone, and keep checking back for details on the giveaway. I'm just waiting to make sure the product I ordered is up to snuff to give to you guys then I'll post some details on how to win!

Baby Pictures, Halloween and Hockey.

Good afternoon/evening everyone!

I'm finally feeling 99% better. One more day and I'm sure I'll be 100%. I would definitely rather be sick now than in two weeks when I have an all-day wedding to shoot.

Now that I'm back, I thought it was time to order up some stuff for a giveaway. I haven't really finalized the details of the giveaway yet, but I will be back with more details later this week! I hope you'll check back to see what's happening!

Well, dates in October are starting to fill up. As of right now I only have weeknight available until October 23rd, so if you would like to schedule something with me, please feel free and I hope we can work something out!

I am looking forward to baby pictures on Tuesday night with Joe, April and baby Ryan. I had to cancel last week since I caught some sort of bug. I was so upset about it, ugh!, I hate when I have to cancel things like that, but it was definitely better to be safe than sorry. But I am so excited to meet him. From the pictures they have posted so far, he's such a little cutie!

On a seasonal topic, Halloween is my favorite holiday. It doesn't seem fair that it always gets pushed to the side since all the stores have to put out their Christmas stuff when school starts. I feel like Halloween always get overlooked. I wish that we could celebrate Halloween all month. I am so excited to decorate my house for October. Last year we got amazing window clings of bloody hands (that we just took down, maybe a month ago.. haha) so I'm sure there will be some awesome stuff in stores this year. I kind of want to decorate now, but it's still September, and it's like 80 out, so it doesn't really seem like fall yet.

Also, October mean hockey. Which, if you know Eric and I, it's kind of a big deal. So 3-4 times a week we will most likely be unavailable. I have definitely felt like my life has been a little emptier without hockey. We have been catching pre-season games, but it's just not cutting it as far as my hockey fix. No one is giving it their all. Although we did see a bad hit during the Buffalo game, I hope no one got seriously injured. Hockey, Hockey, Hockey!!!

I think I'll call it a night! I met with my trainer at the gym yesterday morning, and this girl is extra sore today (in a good way, it makes me feel like I gave it 110% when I'm sore after a morning at the gym)!

Check back for details of the giveaway later this week!

Ta-ta for now!

Sorry there was no post yesterday.. I am feeling a bit under the weather. I promise to be back soon!

For now, keep I in mind that my available dates are filling up and try to schedule your date and time with me soon! Senior/school pictures and family holiday photos are a must for the upcoming months! I'm also available to do halloween photos of you or your munchkins in costume!

Have a great sunshine-y day everyone!!!!

New work week and sneek peeks :)

It's the start of a new work week! Let's hope it's a good one and not a bad one....

I get to take pictures of a brand new baby boy tomorrow night and I'm so excited. His name is Ryan and I just had his parents in here a few weeks ago doing maternity photos. I cannot wait to meet him! You might remember them from the wedding I took photos of in June! They haven't seen these yet with having the new baby and all, so I hope they love them! They'll get to see these and more tomorrow night!

These two look great for not having had power for a few days!

I think this one is one of my favorites.
We had a heat wave that week and I think my studio was 90 degrees plus these two had not slept for 3 days because a lack of power left them in the sweltering heat with no air conditioning! They're a couple of champs though!

Now the weather has cooled off so I'm hoping the studio will be at least a slightly more comfortable temperature!

That's the news for today, my schedule is filling up with weekend bookings and such, so if you would like to schedule a time with me, please e-mail me in the very near future!

Thanks for reading and please, keep checking back!

Art talk and a Before&After!

I had a brief chat (via e-mail) with a friend on Friday at work. We were chatting about art. He's an amazing artist. Please take a look at the things he has done http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/angelo-sena.html  We were saying how much it bugs us when people say "Oh, you're stuff is great, what are you doing working here." Well, the thing about it is, the phrase "starving artist" is more true than anyone would understand. And although I love and adore my craft of photography, it in no way can support my husband and I, so I made a sacrifice to hold a job and do my photography on the side. Don't get me wrong, I love my day job. I do. Not many people can say that, but after the places I have worked and the people I have worked for, I love (mostly) every single thing about my job. But, now here is the other side.. If my photography took off, and I was booked every single night and weekend and could actually say that I made enough to support us, then I would deeply consider doing it full time. It's just one of those things.... I love love love beyond love taking photos and making people happy with the outcome and trying new things with editing and positions in photographs and colors and locations that sometimes that gets the best of me, and I wind up doing a lot of stuff way under market price. My feeling is, I want people to be happy but I also need to compensate for my time and effort and ability, but sometimes it seems so awkward to put a price on things. I'll get there.. It'll take time.. I know that in this economy, most people cannot afford luxuries such as professional photography and I would love nothing more than to make mine available to everyone.. but I'm at such a moral dilemma. Hopefully I can make some peace within myself and figure out the best move to make..

Ah, Sunday night ramblings.

Here's a little show and tell... The first photo is me, right after we got back from our honeymoon and I cut off 11" of my hair.

2008.
The second picture was taken last night.. Add some hair and lose 55lbs.

2011
I don't think I even look like the same person! What do you think!!

Needless to say, I still have at least 30 lbs I want to lose, but I'd say this is going pretty well so far!! Wish me luck :)

That's all I have for now.. Stay tuned!

Don't you just hate it when....

I went all the way to Providence RI today with my sister to buy a dress that I saw last Tuesday only to find out that it had gone on clearance a few days before and they no longer had it in the color that I wanted. I am overly bummed because this dress would have been perfect for the wedding I am shooting in October. Now, I don't know what to do. I could have an old dress altered down to my new size, but what a pain. Don't you just hate it when that happens. You get your heart set on something, only to find out it's not longer available. Urgh!

Anyway. On a brighter note, I got to spend the day with my awesome sister. We're 13 years apart but it feels like much less. We're pretty awesome.
This is me (30 lbs ago) and my sister. naaaaah we're not related.
That's all for today. Fighting a headache, so I'm going to call it a night!

I'll post more tomorrow :) If anyone is interested in doing a shoot with me, I'm totally game!

It's Friday, Everyone!

I am so unbelievably happy that it's Friday today! A lot of good things are in the works for me! I have a newborn/family session with the cute couple from June, Joe and April, and their new little addition Ryan. I am so excited and cannot wait to meet him (and see them, of course)! Also, I will be giving them their maternity session photos that day too, which is super exciting. I'll share those with you all very soon!

So the weather here has been pretty crazy. It was at a high of 92 yesterday and the highest I saw it reach was 63 today. I feel like everyone is going to get sick because that big of a drop in temperature cannot be good for your body.

Well, back to the past so I can actually catch up and keep current with the present.

In August, I took pictures at a wedding for Adam and Korie. They were so cute! I had so much fun and it helped having my husband on hand as my camera-bag-carrier/helper. Like I was saying yesterday, it's okay to ask for help, especially if you need it! So apparently I did follow my own advice!

The guestbook and the table place cards.

A vintage finish on this picture. I think it came out beautifully!

Their ensemble was perfect for this vintage feel with a splash of color.

Sometimes you just catch those moments :)

Perfect in Black and White!
Aren't they so cute! And don't they look so happy! I don't think I saw them with anything other than a big smile on their face all night! I am so happy that they chose me to capture their day. It was an honor! And I had a blast!

I hope you guys are enjoying this little look into my life. I have been pouring my heart and soul into this blog, so at least I hope it's keeping you entertained!

That's all for now! There's definitely more to come!

It might just be one of those weeks....

Not to be morbid today or anything, but I feel that in everyone's lives there is a point in time where you realize what the most important things to you are. And, like I've often read and heard, the grass isn't always greener. What you feel is your own personal perfection may truly be misery and hell for another. So rather than look at what others have and what you want you life to be, take a breath and realize all the good things you have in your own life. Okay, I understand that most of your financial situations are not ideal, but neither is mine, but you have to embrace what you have and keep living for today, because sometimes, tomorrow never comes.

From today forward, promise yourself one thing. No more regrets. No more of the would've, could've, should've. Do it now. Embrace the light, the night. Do what makes you happy, what makes you shine inside. Be creative and make something, or help someone, or even sit down and turn your brain off. Be passionate. Pour your heart and soul into something. Strive to be the you that you want to be. Something just for yourself. Because of all the people in the world, you should be the most important one for yourself. You can't make anyone else happy until you are happy with yourself.

If you've already achieved this, then congratulations. You have reached what most people want to reach. Pure happiness. It comes from within. Sure possessions make you happy, a new purse, a new electronic, but pure happiness, pure bliss, comes from something inside. It is obvious to the people who know you best when you are at that point in your life. Your face changes, your appearance changes, your life changes. Change is not a bad thing. Well, not always. And if it's a bad thing, try to make it into a positive thing.

Let go of the little stuff too. The things that bother you and that you can let youself get into little arguments about, let it go. Is it worth it to argue over laundry and dishes and dirty socks? Probably not. Take a deep breath and ask yourself if it really is a big deal. If it is, then pursue it, because it might eat you alive, but if it's not a big deal, let it go.

One more point I really need to stress: if you need help, ask for it. You may think that you can do everything on your own, but you wouldn't be who you are without the guidance and help of your family and friends who have always been your support system. It doesn't even matter what the help is about, whether it be needing help moving, just ask. Or if it is something more serious, like you're just not feeling like yourself and you need to talk. Call someone, write, e-mail, text. With all of the technology available, someone will always be on the other end, willing and able to help. If it's emotional/personal/mental anguish that is bothering you, ask for help. There is someone out there. Comment, email, I'll get back to you. Always.

I don't mean to preach, but this is something that I just feel like I need to say. I want everyone to reach their own personal happiness and to know that someone out there appreciates you, even when it feels like the world is against you.

Thanks for listening.

On a happier note: I will be posting a way to enter in my giveaway soon. For followers of my blog. Free stuff is always fun :) And I want to show you guys that I appreciate you all! So definitely stay posted for that

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Short post today, for it is unseasonably hot at 83 degrees and I'm not feeling tip-top. Some days are like that I suppose.

I had a meeting with my October Bride this morning, and for those of you who do not know, she is amazing. And, on a not-so-smaller note, I am so supremely excited to be photographing her wedding. I am pretty much her slave for most of the day, which I wouldn't want any other way.. Although I do need to make it back to H&M for a dress I tried on that would be perfect attire for this event. I can't wait to just go photo crazy that day! It's a month from tomorrow, so I better start preparing.

No photos to share today, sadly, seeing as though this is a slightly photo blog...

I have to go check out a site for senior photos tonight or tomorrow so I'll be off having small adventures!

That's all for now.. No words of wisdom, no earth shattering revelations.. just a little info about day-to-day happenings..

And now.. for present day happenings!

I'm fast-forwarding to today.. I'll start back up with previous happenings tomorrow or the next day... But today is a day for.. well.. today!

Today is the 13th of September which means it's my anniversary with my Hubby! Yes, yes.. we got married on the 13th. It's fitting if you know us. But that was a whole 3 years ago... pshew how time flies! All in all though, we've been together for 11 years. Which is a feat in and of itself. Not for us. But in general.

So around anniversary time is when I start to look at all the old pictures of us. We have definitely changes since we were 16 years old!

This is my husband's favorite picture of us. Taken on our front porch on my 16th birthday.
I have been through so many different hair styles it's unbelievable. This was taken toward the end of high school.

This was taken around the same time as the last one... with less bangs, clearly.

This was taken before junior prom. Note the red hair. (Maybe I wasn't the only one that went through a lot of hair styles ;)  )
This was from sometime far after high school.. we went to see a friend perform...
Engagement pictures in 2008.

Wedding picture in 2008 :)
One of our favorite pictures. It kind of describes us perfectly. And I chopped off all my hair, so this is definitely after the wedding. haha
Some time after the last one was taken.... after I lost the first 25lbs and Eric lost like 60lbs.
I'll post some new pictures soon... So you all can compare and contrast. I know we definitely look soooooo much different.

Well, that was a little trip down memory lane. As for me, it's time to go relax since Eric took me out to dinner for our anniversary. We went to Guiseppe's in Northboro MA and if you haven't been, it's about time you try to make it over there. Amazing food. Amazing. Sometimes you just have to give up on your diet and eat the things you used to eat!

Soon I'll reach my goal weight and maybe I'll pull out some of these old pics and do a before and after.. That would be fun!

I'm off to go relax! Enjoy your night everyone :)

My vacation is over. Those 4 words are so sad and invoke plenty of heartfelt apologies from co-workers. I feel like no matter how long your vacation is, it is never long enough. Eric and I spent from the 2st until the 11th together on vacation. It was wonderful to say the least, even though it rained most of the week. Can't help the weather, I always say.

Moving on, away from my little pity party of no longer being on vacation..

Remember those pictures from the Grist Mill. Yes? Great! Lynne and I wound up having ourselves a photo shoot there and I think the results are amazing. Let me know what you think!

I love this one, with messy hair and a girly look with combat boots, it just makes me smile.

I think this is Lynne's favorite (and maybe one of my top 3. It's so hard to choose!!)
Remember those red doors? This was taken right next to one.. I love the contrast of the red with the stone. and the fact that she's off center makes me love it even more!

We were joking around.. I told her this could be her Country Music Album cover. She laughed since country music is the farthest thing from her taste of music.

I think this vintage-y pin up photo says a lot about her.

This one pretty much encompasses the feel of the day. I told her I wanted her to look "fluffy" and this is pretty fluffy!

Well that's kind of all I have for today. I hope you enjoyed the shoot! Feel free to let me know your favorite or if you have any ideas of what you'd like to see or if you'd like to do some modelling! I'm always open to new models! I'll post again tomorrow!

Day Three (In a row!) Once the amazement wears off, I'll stop counting...

I'm getting good at this updating thing. Although it has only been three days it feels like I'm on a roll.. Maybe soon you'll all get to hear about current events rather than stuff from June/July/August.

Any-who. On with it!

We (hubby and I) spent the 4th of July with my in-laws. As always it's a good time to get together and see one another. We go a while in between seeing each other because life sometimes gets in the way and we seem to fill every moment of free time with something, whether it be cleaning up the house or me scheduling some sort of event (photo shoot for real or photo shoots for fun) or some other random miscellaneous task. Like recently I have decided to go through the attic and find yarn that I have not designated for a project and make scarves out of the remaining skeins (Possibly for Christmas or even some sort of give-away... stay tuned). So it seems that things like that just get in the way. I'm sure that's relate-able.

Getting back to the original story (see this is what happens on a daily basis. I start something and then get completely distracted and wind up talking/writing/doing something else, then I'll find/look up the original thing I was doing etc... story of my life.)....

This is what happened on the 4th of July.

Lemon pepper marinated shrimp skewers. They were probably the best I have ever tasted. For real.

Grilled buttered corn on the cob. I have always eaten corn on the cob when it has been boiled. This grilled corn has completely ruined me for any other kind of corn. I can't even begin to tell you how good it was.

My lover-ly hubby. He's definitely used to me snapping pictures of him, thankfully. And I think he feels the same way about the corn. Best. Ever.

Well, that was our 4th of July. I would have asked you all to comment/share your cookout experiences during the 4th celebrations, but... it was like 2 months ago.. the start of summer... so I'm sure you have all had other cookouts or more memorable things happen to you. So, once I'm all updated and actually sharing real-time happenings, maybe the commenting/sharing can commence.

As for now, I bid you adieu.

"Your heart is free. Have the courage to follow it."

Saturday, September 10, 2011

Wow! Two days in a row!

This is now my opportunity to fill everyone in on July. But I promise it won't be overwhelming.

I was scouting out a location for a photo shoot with my friend Lynne (you'll see more of her soon) and we decided on the Grist Mill in Sudbury MA.

If you haven't been there, you need to go there. If you have been there, then go there again and just take a walk around and enjoy it again. It isn't all about the mill. There are paths and across the street is a chapel and the little red house where the song "Mary Had A Little Lamb" was created (I think). There are also more historic buildings around and while you're there, head on over to the Wayside Inn Country Store. I remember going there when I was little and buying little trinkets like you would do if you went far away on vacation, completely convinced you'd never find anything like it again.. Oh the joys of being little.

To be completely honest, I grew up around here and I feel like this place is somewhere that I have always been very very fond of. I love ever aspect of it, from the historical to the understated beauty, if you really look for it. Every time I visit I feel an overwhelming sense of calm come over me and then my creativity has a chance to take over. All in all, I love it there. I would do ever photo shoot there, but that may get a tad boring to see over and over again. (Although, in my mind, I have a few more shoots I would love to do there..)

The beautiful Grist Mill when you first walk down the path.

The side of the building.

There are little paths around and behind the mill.
I am in love with this tree. I love that every time i go there, it always has stumps in front of it, inviting you to stay a while.

This is the opposite direction down a different path. It leads you to water where you can sometimes see swans swimming. We saw a Blue Heron the last time we were there.
I love these types of fences. Just a slot and two narrow boards of wood. Simple beauty.
The door latch that looks like a face with it's tongue sticking out.

I'll be back soon to post more adventures and photo shoots, but for now, enjoy today as if tomorrow will never come.

Blogger app

I just found a blogger app for my phone!! Hooray!

Awful. At. This.

So I recently decided to try to become dedicated to this blogging thing.. Although I do wish there was an app to help me with this..... Maybe I'll check for one later... But, 'later' seems to be the story of my life lately.

Anyway, I at least know that I have dedication. I have been going to the gym religiously since June 26th (2011) so I know I've got it in me to be dedicated to something.... But this blog seems to be the one thing I can't keep updating. Maybe it's the photos... I want to add them to the blog, but editing them and cropping and sizing takes so much work and I feel like I don't have the time to do it, but I really want to try.

So hang in there people, I'll be back.. and maybe, just maybe I'll change the look of things.. and start sharing things I encounter in life.

Here are a few photos I took in June...

My Hubby bought me some flowers a while back and I was playing with my camera and a spritzer... I always have such a good time snapping away!

We went to Maine in June.. (I am totally going to try to update more haha) and I snapped this pic of my in-law's pup, after a long day of swimming. The weather was perfect! The massive amount of bugs is the only thing I wish I could have changed!
This is the sunset on our last night at the camp in Maine. We had such a good time! I really can't wait to get back.

I liked the way the logs looked on the fire. It was really chilly that night, but amazingly, you start to overheat if you stand too close.. I wish we had made some s'mores!

So, that was a little peek into our June (mini) vacation to Maine. I'll post more from July/August/September soon!
